Stranger Things is a global phenomenon, there's no doubt about that. The series has done a lot to reignite everyone's nostalgia for the ‘80s, whilst also having smart storytelling and engaging characters. It also made Dungeons and Dragons more popular, even though that tabletop game has been played for decades; literal decades. In fact, the show is so popular that viewers ended up renewing their Netflix subscription just to watch it.
According to Variety, Wall Street firm Cowen & Co found in a study of 2,500 U.S. consumers that 13% of former Netflix subscribers stated they planned to rejoin the service so they could watch season 3 of the show. Cowen & Co's study also found that around 51% of current Netflix members stated that they planned to watch season 3 of Stranger Things and that 5% of the consumers surveyed who weren't current Netflix members said they intended to subscribe to watch the show.
It's pretty crazy to know that people would sign up for a Netflix subscription just to watch Stranger Things season 3. Then again, the show's popularity is well-deserved since it's an original IP that doesn't rely on comic book characters or decades' old franchises (despite constantly referencing comic book characters and decades' old franchises).
