Disney Fans Angrily Respond to Li-Shang's Removal from Live-Action Mulan Movie

Disney's upcoming live-action Mulan movie actually looks pretty solid, with some stunning trailers that give us a good idea of what the film is going to be like. However, some of the changes that were made have made fans unhappy, from the lack of songs to the complete removal of Li Shang from the story. The official reason for Shang's removal was given and everyone in social media took umbrage over it.

Apparently, the filmmakers thought Li and Mulan being romantic was a problem since he was her commanding officer in the original movie. However, as many fans have pointed out, Li never makes a move on her during his time as an officer and only pursues her romantically in the end, when he was no longer her commanding officer.

While we understand why Disney wants to chase those woke dollars, this instance backfired on them, as have a number of their attempts to be more feminist-friendly. They hyped up Lefou being gay in Beauty and the Beast, which ended up being a massive disappointment. One Onward character was also revealed to be a lesbian but she barely appears in the movie.

Fans might appreciate these attempts, as do we, but we wish they would think about these woke moments before actually implementing them. Li Shang never did anything forceful to Mulan while he was her commanding officer so his removal feels unnecessary. Maybe they'll learn from this mistake or give him a solo movie but they probably won't.

Mulan comes out on March 27.
