DC Comics Pays Tribute to Stan Lee

Marvel and DC have been rivals for years, sometimes friendly, other times ugly, most of the time indifferent. While Stan Lee was the face of Marvel for many years, even the most hardcore DC fans can admit that the creator's influence on comic books was too great too ignore and Lee's way of storytelling helped DC get better. Despite only writing a few stories for the company, DC decided to pay tribute to the legendary creator on some of their comic books.

In a one-page spread, DC paid a simple tribute to Lee and even called themselves the Distinguished Competition as a way to honor the man. To those unaware, Lee and other Marvel creators would call DC the Distinguished Competition when referencing them in letters or other media. It's really cool seeing DC reference that when paying tribute to the man since they could have easily ignored that.

Lee made his DC Comics debut penning an ode to Batman during Detective Comics #600 and soon wrote the Just Imagine one-shots that had Lee reimagining some of DC's most iconic superheroes. His final work for the company came in DC Comics Presents: Superman #1, which was a tribute to late editor Julius Schwartz.

Despite making his name in Marvel comics, Lee's impact on the comic book industry cannot be understated. Sure, there were times when Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko could have used more credit but Lee was never as bad as, say, Bob Kane.

Rest in peace Stan.
