If you thought unicorns are a thing of fantasy novels and fairy tales, then you thought wrong, according to a new research. There's a big difference between unicorns in fairy tales and unicorns in "the real world" though.

According to Science Alert, real-life unicorns looked like heavy and bulky horned rhinos than white slim horses with single horns.

Well a new study published in the American Journal of Applied Science claims that a new fossil unearthed in Kazakhstan is believed to be of a unicorn and that the species lived around 29,000 years ago. What makes the research interesting is that unicorns were believed to have roamed Earth 350,000 years ago.

Apparently, unicorns were a close relative of rhinos too. The study describes unicorns as 6 feet tall creatures with a single horn protruding between their eyes.

According to the researchers, because of the changing environment, the unicorns had to migrate to the south of Western Siberia, but obviously, no single unicorn was able to survive the world's climate in the area at the time. Now what makes the study more significant than proving the existence of a creature of fiction? By using their knowledge of how Siberian unicorn became extinct from the events of the past, researchers might help find a way to keep modern animals from suffering the same fate.
