New Live-Action Star Wars And Marvel Series Coming To Disney’s Upcoming Streaming Service

Disney is planning on launching their own huge streaming service in 2019, and it's no surprise that it will be coming with some original content. As it turns out, the service will be providing us with a whole new live-action Star Wars series, as well as series for Marvel and a bunch of other properties.

This was announced by Bob Iger during Disney's quarterly earnings call (via Variety), and he confirms that other properties like Monsters Inc. and High School Musical are getting a series treatment. With the service planning to launch in 2019, hopefully we get some more updates on the shows before the official launch of the service.

Before the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, George Lucas was said to have been developing a live-action Star Wars television show set in the timeline between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope; the show was also said to be focusing on the "scum and villainy" side of the universe. No show ever happened, but with Disney's new streaming service, it could very well be a possibility now.

As for the Marvel side of things, we can't expect it to be as adult as the shows that Marvel Netflix has on, but hopefully it will be more closely connected to the cinematic universe. Sure the TV series mention what happens in the movies all the time, but for once I would like the films to acknowledge the existence of Daredevil or Jessica Jones.

We don't have any specifics on the upcoming shows for Disney's streaming service, but hopefully more details get released as the year trudges along.
