Netflix Orders Marvel’s Punisher Spin-Off, Teaser Poster Released

It's official. The Punisher is getting his own TV series.

Netflix has just made the order for Jon Bernthal to reprise his role and star in The Punisher spin-off, according to EW.

Hannibal veteran, writer, and executive producer Steve Lightfoot, who also worked on Casualty, will serve as the series showrunner.

The character, Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal in the second season of Daredevil, is a vigilante assassin and military veteran who takes revenge and brings justice into his own hands by going on a killing rampage against criminals in Hell's Kitchen.

Check out the first teaser image for the series:

The Punisher will be the sixth Marvel series to be done in collaboration with Netflix. The first projects between Netflix and Marvel television are Daredevil, followed by Jessica Jones. Later on, a Luke Cage and Iron Fist were ordered. The four characters will star in an ensemble miniseries titled The Defenders.

It remains unclear whether the Punisher will appear in The Defenders, but it's highly likely that he will, considering his popularity and relationship with "Red," as he so fondly calls Daredevil.

Hopefully, he'll be one of the sort of good guys, like how he was portrayed in Daredevil season 2. I'd hate to see him getting chased and beaten by the Defenders.

TV Line first reported last summer of a potential Punisher spin-off. Netflix and Marvel are expected to make a public announcement this Friday.
