In August 2020, Netflix confirmed two new cast members joining the final season of Money Heist: Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Patrick Criado.

Miguel Silverstre, best known for his role in Netflix's Sense8, was announced to join the cast of Season 5. On his Instagram, he said (translated into English): "Mamaaaa! How lucky I am? Maximo of joy!"

Here's what showrunner Alex Pina said about Silvestre's character:

"We always try to bring in charismatic, intelligent and brilliant opponents. In this case, from a genre of pure war, we also look for characters in which the intelligence can be like that of the Professor"

Secondly, Patrick Criado is best known for his roles in El Aspirante, Mar de Plástico, El Rey, and La Línea Invisible. He is 24-years-old, which makes him one of the youngest cast members of Money Heist Season 5.

On Aug. 19, the official La Casa de Papel Twitter account shared a clip of Criado's role with Berlin. Apparently, his character's name is Rafael, and he's described to be a prodigal son.

Netflix also teased the three new characters in Aug. 2021, which also includes Sagasta (played by José Manuel Seda), the Commander of the Special Forces of the Spanish Army.

In September 2020, FormulaTV confirmed another cast member: José Manuel Seda, an actor, writer, and director best known for his work on Yo soy Bea and directing the 2005 short, Tránsito.

Over on Twitter, Seda said:

"Happy to share the wonderful gift I received on my birthday: my participation in the final season of @LaCasaDePapelTV one of those series that when you see them, you dream of being in it. Thanks to @VancouverMed and @NetflixES"

The rest of the actors will return, including include Alvaro Morte (Professor) Ursula Corbero (Tokyo) Itziar Ituno (Raquel Murillo), Pedro Alonso (Berlin), Miguel Herran (Rio), Jaime Lorente (Denver), Esther Acebo (Monica Gaztambide), Enrique Arce (Arturo Roman), Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Najwa Nimri (Alicia Sierra), Hovik Keuchkerian (Bogota), Luka Peros (Marseille), Belen Cuesta (Manila), Fernando Cayo (Luis Tamayo), Fernando Soto (Angel Rubio), Jose Manuel Poga (Cesar Gandia) and Mario de la Rosa (Suarez).

Warning: Spoilers for Money Heist Season 4 and previous seasons ahead.

At the end of Money Heist Season 4, The Professor (played by Alvaro Morte) was caught by Alicia Sierra, the pregnant inspector played by Najwa Nimri, who has gone rogue. Alicia pointed a gun at the professor, and the fourth season cuts to credits with a new rendition of the show's iconic song, Bella Ciao.

In the Bank of Spain, the team has to work on the final stages of the heist and find a way out, but with the military involved, and the Professor in trouble, the gang will surely have an extremely hard time escaping the bank. Season 4 revealed that the gang in the basement is continuing to melt down the gold into small balls for extraction.

Now, let's get to the spoiler hints for Season 5.

The first volume of Money Heist Season 5 saw the death of Tokyo (played by Ursula Corbero) after being shot by a sniper from outisde. The final episodes will likely show the gang's desperate attempts to survive and escape the heist.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pina said that "the gang will now be pushed into irreversible situations, into a wild war. It is the most epic part of all the parts we've shot."

Pina added, "We have spent almost a year thinking about how to destroy the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth season of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season"

The fan-favorite character, Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso) is also expected to return as the actor and Vancouver Media teased his appearance in the final film. As most fans know, most of his appearances since Money Heist Season 3 have been flashbacks, so it's likely that Season 5 will continue showing more of Berlin's past.

During the show's appearance at the 2021 Television Critics Association summer press tour, Money Heist producer Jesús Colmenar sees Nairobi's death in Season 4 as a teaser of what is to come. "Nairobi's personality was not cut for the war we find in this final season, so she wasn't supposed to be here," Colemnar said. 'She wasn't cut for that. And I think that this adds momentum to our characters that would be complex to add otherwise. We kill our characters, and I think it adds tension, and it's a good thing not to be able to know who will be killed and what will happen."

As expected, Money Heist Season 5 featured a lot of deaths, but the show definitely ends with a bang.

The heist may be over after the conclusion of Money Heist series, but in November 2021, Netflix ordered a spinoff of the hit Spanish drama series, centered around the fan-favorite character Berlin, a.k.a. Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso.

The series is set to launch in 2023. The streaming giant didn’t give out many details of the spinoff, but the Berlin character is the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with Palermo and the Professor.
