Mission: Impossible 7 Star Tom Cruise Not Happy with Release Strategy

It's been 25 years since the first Mission: Impossible film was released and the franchise is still on its high and, arguably, better than ever. The upcoming seventh film is one of the most-anticipated films next year and it is expected to deliver big numbers at the box office as the audience will surely rush in to theaters to witness Ethan Hunt's latest adventure.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Mission: Impossible 7 will stream on Paramount+ after a 45-day theatrical window, instead of the traditional 90-day. But as it turns out, according to The Hollywood Reporter, its star Tom Cruise was not happy about the decision as he prefers the traditional 90-day window.

There has been a shakeup lately at Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the film, as its president Jim Gianopulos exited the position and is being replaced by Nickelodeon head Brian Robbins, who is expected to focus more on ramping up Paramount+. There are rumors that some of its films might head to streaming, instead of theatrical only. According to YouTuber and Hollywood producer Robert Meyer Burnett, he received insider info that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Scream might be among the upcoming titles that could debut on Paramount+.

Cruise, who is still one of the biggest movie stars in the world, has been a champion of the theatrical experience so it is not surprising that he was against the decision. After all, the Mission: Impossible films are box office hits and it has the production values that would make it worthy to be seen on the biggest screen. Plus a longer theatrical run could maximum all of its potentials to earn a large profit and make it more valuable in the long run.

However, Paramount+ has been pushing to ramp up its service and attract more subscribers to sign-up. Aside from producing a lot of Star Trek series, they've also rebooted the Nickelodeon series iCarly and moved some of CBS' shows to the service. They are also working on TV series adaptations of some of the films in their library such as The Italian Job, Flashdance, and Grease. They even made a $900 million deal with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to produce two films based on the show per year. The 45-day window strategy is an attempt to make their theatrical films available to the service the soonest and could potentially attract more subscribers.
