One of the things that MCU fans have been clamoring about is the introduction of the X-Men. We know that they are coming soon. It's just a matter of when, where, and how they will be introduced. A lot of actors in both the MCU and Fox's X-Men franchise have been publicly expressing their hope on having the mutants finally appear in the MCU and Doctor Strange himself has recently added to that voice.
In a recent interview with Variety discussing their upcoming film The Power of the Dog, Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch along with Kodi Smit-McPhee, who played Nightcrawler in the X-Men films, were asked about the potential crossover with Smit-McPhee returning to play his character since the X-Men are now going to be part of the MCU.
“We’ve talked about this,” Cumberbatch said. “We loved working with each other, so we would love to do that jam. Of course, it’d be a very different vibe, but yeah.”
Smit-McPhee added, “It would be so cool. It’s an honor to play both sides of the spectrum, but it would be even more an honor to cross paths again with someone you grew so close with on something so theatrical, something like this, and then to go to something fun like that — it would be great.”
It seems like Cumberbatch and Smit-McPhee had a great time working together that they would be willing to do it again in the MCU. Obviously, that is only if Smit-McPhee gets to reprise his role or perhaps play a brand new character in the franchise. It would be awesome to see Doctor Strange team up with the X-Men. That would be a dream for a lot of Marvel fans.
As of now, there's still no confirmed appearance of an X-Men character in a future MCU project. There are rumors however that some of them might show up in films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We will find out soon enough on how they will integrate them in the MCU and, when that finally happens, fans will surely be delighted.
