Marvel's Civil War 2 Kicks Off With A Couple of Devastating Twists

Warning: this article contains full spoilers from Civil War II #1!

Marvel Comics promised a hue shocker in Civil War II by Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marque, and with the first issue releasing today, and with today's first issue hitting shelves, they proved well on their word.

The issue begins with all of Marvel's assembled heroes (Avengers, X-Men, Inhumans) beating down a Celestial Destructor (an extremely powerful monster from another dimension), and it's revealed that they were only able to do so with the help of Ulysses, a new Inhuman who has the ability to predict the future.

Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers wants to keep using his gift to stop threats before they happen (like in Minority Report), while Iron Man admits that it helped destroy Destructor, he thinks it's against the idea of imprisoning someone before they commit the crime.

Three weeks later, Ulysses has a vision of the super-villain Thanos attacking Earth, so he could find the Cosmic Cube, so Carol assembles a team of Ultimates to defeat him before he can make his move. The battle, featured in Marve's Free Comic Book Day issue, ends with War Machines getting a lethal blow from Thanos.

War Machine's missiles also misfired right into She-Hulk, leaving her in critical condition.

At the Triskellion, the Ultimates' headquarters, Tony arrives and is understandably upset to see Rhodey's condition. When he found out that Rhodey was only on that mission in the first place because the team listened to Ulysses, he gets even angrier at Carol. But Carol says that Rhodey was a soldier who fell in battle, and given that she was in a romantic relationship with him, she knew that he wouldn't have done anything different given the chance.

Tony leaves to find Ulysses so no one can "play god" again, but before Carol can go after him, She-Hulk wakes up in her hospital bed and grabs her hand. Dying, she tells Carol to continue fighting for the future.

With two superheroes dying, Civil War 2 is shaping out to be a chaotic series. Watch the trailer here.
