Marvel Loses License to Publish Stephen King's Dark Tower Comics

For years, Marvel has been publishing comics about Stephen King's The Dark Tower and they have been pretty successful, with 2007's The Gunslinger Born arguably being their most popular series. It seems like that's all coming to an end now, as it was announced that Gallery 13 now has the writes to publish these stories.

Revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Gallery 13 will republish the stories Marvel have already released. There are 11 graphic novels in total, with five of them being set in Beginnings and the final six, which are direct adaptations of The Gunslinger. All of these graphic novels were co-written by comic book legend Peter David and Robin Furth, with art done by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove.

Not wasting any time with their recent acquisition, Gallery 13 has announced that they will be releasing all of Beginnings this summer, starting with The Gunslinger Born on August 14, with more installments coming every two weeks. Direct adaptations of The Gunslinger will come out in Spring 2019.

The Dark Tower is arguably one of King's most popular stories, not only receiving comic book adaptations but also getting a live-action film last year, though many thought it was terrible. A television series is still being planned, though no release date has been announced.
