When Disney announced a new streaming service, fans of Netflix got anxious about the announcement. Not because it could overthrow the acclaimed service but due to Disney possibly taking the Marvel shows on Netflix, like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher. It looks like that might not be the case, as reports have claimed that Netflix would keep those shows and a recent statement from Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley might have confirmed it.
Buckley told Bloomberg that Marvel wants to continue the current success both companies are having on Netflix. This might have been the expected answer since there are so many Marvel shows on various networks. ABC has the rights to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hulu has confirmed a second season for The Runaways, and Freeform is about to launch Cloak and Dagger.
"We obviously want the Marvel Television series currently on Netflix to have a long and lauded run," Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment, said in an email. New projects, he added, would seek out "networks and platforms that are the best fit for that content, including the Disney-branded streaming service."
It seems like Netflix will continue airing these gritty Marvel shows, though future programs could end up in the new streaming service of Disney. For now, fans of the current slate of Netflix Marvel shows have nothing to worry about.
We will be seeing new seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage on Netflix this year.
