As anime continues to dominate the world of pop culture, Netflix is bringing us a new anime adaptation called Trese, based on the award-winning Filipino comics of the same name by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo.

Trese tells the story of Alexandra Trese, a detective that specializes in handling supernatural cases. Set in modern-day Manila where creatures from Filipino folklore co-exist with humans, this horror and crime series is sure to keep us on our toes.

Trese will premiere on Netflix on June 11, 2021. The series will be available to watch in three different languages—Filipino, English, and Japanese.

The English dub cast is composed of actors of Filipino descent. Alexandra Trese, the main character, will be voiced by Shay Mitchell (You, Pretty Little Liars). Alongside her are well-known names in the industry, such as Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Darren Criss (Glee, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: An American Crime Story), Nicole Scherzinger (Moana), and Dante Basco (Avatar: The Last Airbender). This dark fantasy series fuses the vast Filipino folklore in the modern, urban setting of Manila. Alexandra Trese's family serves as the link between humans and the supernatural, keeping peace within the city. However, this so-called peace seems to be on the verge of breaking and it's up to Alexandra to stop the schemes of the criminal underworld.
