If you think Avengers: Endgame finally settled who will take on the mantle of being Captain America, the new trailer that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier might be hinting otherwise.

With a new official trailer released for the series during the most recent Super Bowl, fans have gone wild after the new trailer was flashed on the screen and it drew excitement as the series is one and a half months shy away from its digital premiere.

Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will return as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, respectively. The two best friends of Captain America, both past and present, will be taking on the world post-Captain America.

Aside from the ecstatic feeling of seeing a new trailer dropped in one of the biggest sports events of the year, the fans had a chuckle at the love-hate relationship that Sam and Bucky are sharing as the trailer opens with the two in front of what seems like a guidance counselor and a staring contest by the end of the trailer.

What pumped-up fans, even more, is what happens in between the counseling session of Sam and Bucky. If WandaVision seemed uncanny to open the fourth phase of the MCU with its strangeness, not all the series that would be released would take on that style as the new trailer of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier sure seems like the classic superhero action is back.

We get to see Sam and Bucky face their villains, both old and new, with Baron Zemo and The Flag-Smashers, in an action-filled trailer where the two get to showcase their fighting prowess. Despite not always being in agreement, both share the same vision as that of Captain America: fight for justice and what is right.

As shown in the trailer, it seems that not only do they share the vision of Captain America, they also seem to share the shield that Cap has left to Sam at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It can be recalled that Cap has given Sam the shield as he aged fine enjoying the prime years of his life with his love, Peggy Carter.

In a scene from the trailer, Bucky handled the shield of Captain America when Sam threw it. Bucky looked fine and fierce as he carried the shield of his childhood best friend. Could it be possible that both of them would be wielding the shield?

The shield of Captain America is not just a weapon, it carries with it the symbol of hope and justice amongst those who wield it. The shield brings with it a legacy that Captain America had shaped through the years he held the shield so taking on the mantle of being its new holder is no easy feat.

Anthony Mackie shared his thoughts on his character being the new Captain America and he said that Sam did not deliberately accept the shield nor declared that he is or is not the new Captain America. Mackie seems to be hinting that there is more to passing the shield to become the new Captain America.

Reportedly, a new character will be introduced in the series going by the name of Super Patriot to be portrayed by Wyatt Russell. The Super Patriot is a jingoistic Cap who is a US Agent and is part of the efforts of the US government to replicate Captain America.

Does this mean that aside from Sam and Bucky, there's another one who will be claiming the title of Captain America? Or would Captain America himself settle the score and appear to make it official?

While there is no deliberate claim between Sam and Bucky, when Cap gave his shield to Sam, it seemed like Bucky agreed to the choice of Steve to pass it on to Sam. In the trailer, Bucky could simply be a helpful friend to Sam. Could it be the reason why they are toe to toe in the staring contest they had in front of the counselor?

The question of who is the new Captain America lies and only the series can surely give a direct answer to this. The Falcon and The Winter Soldierpremieres on March 19, 2021 with six episodes of action and excitement on Disney+.
