Two of the most skilled fighters in the MCU will team up to fill in the gap that Captain America has left following his retirement. Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and possibly in the same timeline as WandaVision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier brings the fans to the world post-Captain America as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes take on Helmut Zemo and the anarchist group, Flag Smashers.
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will reprise their roles as The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and they will be joined by familiar faces from the Captain America Trilogy, Emily VanCamp will be back as Sharon Carter aka Agent 13 and Daniel Bruhl will suit up as Helmut Zemo. Fans theorized that the series will make way for the Young Avengers and introduce a member of the team.
Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes will take on an adventure that will take their abilities and patience to the test in a world where The Falcon will don the shield of Captain America. Given that both of them are best friends of Captain America, the difference would lie on the timelines they were brought in with Bucky being from the ‘40s and Sam from the 2010s. It is expected that the two would not always get along but with a common goal, it’s the game face on. According to Anthony Mackie, the series will show the lives of the character in between the movies and give the viewers a glimpse of a day in the life of a superhero.
The six-episode series is will shed light on the role that The Falcon and The Winter Solider will take in the rebuilding stage of the Avengers as the whole MCU is headed for an expanded universe delving into time-travel and the multiverse. Despite losing three of the original Avengers, characters who were sidetracked will now be having their own highlight and will definitely play a bigger part in the future of the MCU.
Originally slated for release in August 2020 and pushed back by the pandemic, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier returns on March 19, 2021, via Disney+.
