In the season finale of the canon series, Agatha Harkness revealed the Darkhold to Wanda calling it the book of the damned. It could mean that Agatha has been studying the Darkhold for centuries that she seems to be all-knowing of the contents of it as it is the source of her power dating back to 1693, in Salem, where Agatha faced her coven and her mother where she outpowered them.

Where did the Darkhold come from?

The Darkhold originated from the Dark Dimension where it is said to contain infinite knowledge about the universe. The book itself is made up of Dark matter making it a staple source of Dark magic. It is said that those who get ahold of the Darkhold would be damned or would be one of the most powerful beings with an infinite source of knowledge.

The Darkhold is a book of spells where the reader of the book could take instructions and make their desires come true. Its language is tailored to fit to the reader making it decipherable only by the holder itself. The Darkhold holds secrets to the creation and harnessing energy. The book itself has the capacity to poison the mind of the reader and make one obsessed with it.

Only beings prepared to handle it can do away with the corruption and obsession that comes with the book. In Agatha's case, she was able to properly channel the energy the book gives her in her own will making the book an asset for her and her spells to be ever-powerful.

The Darkhold in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD

The Darkhold is nothing new to Marvel as it first appeared in the TV series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. It tied up two seasons where the Darkhold got into the wrong hands and corrupted everyone who takes hold of it except for one, Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider.

In Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, the Darkhold is read by Aida, a life-model decoy that SHIELD used in order not to corrupt their minds as hers was just a program. However, Aida became obsessed with it making her an evil LMD and wreaking havoc in SHIELD.

To prevent more corrupted minds, Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes took the Darkhold and brought it back to the Dark Dimension or Hell, whichever he calls it. The Ghost Rider made a deal with the devil in exchange for his life to avenge his brother from the dead in the hands of bad guys.

Darkhold: What Does it Mean for the MCU?

The Darkhold can bring in more things other than giving a whole chapter dedicated to the Scarlet Witch. As Agatha has mentioned, the Darkhold has a chapter all about Scarlet Witch – a witch who's not born but forged, one with no coven, and one who casts spells without any incantations.

This could also mean that Scarlet Witch's origins date back to the past as she is prophesized or so written in the book of the damned that she is meant to arrive in the universe itself.

With the Darkhold in play, this could also be the introduction of the Ghost Rider in the MCU as the Ghost Rider is the only being not corrupted by the book given that his origins also tie-up with the Dark Dimension.

With the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Darkhold could also take up a role as the Multiverse includes those from the Dark Dimension that could be reeking into the world we know of today.

With Wanda getting hooked to studying and reading her origins, it could mean that she took it in herself to learn more about what she can do so that the moment she faces another powerful witch like Agatha again, this time, she's equipped with the proper knowledge on how to use her magic.

Given the knowledge that the Darkhold has, Wanda can learn much with spells and her magic making her one of the most powerful witches to ever set foot on earth.

ASSEMBLED: The Making of WandaVision will be released on March 12, 2021, via Disney+.
