It has been a staple of the Arrowverse since its release and The Flash continuously made progress on the story of Barry Allen. With the finale of its seventh season having various speedsters facing Godspeed, many are looking forward to Season 8. Be prepared with everything you need to know from the release date, the villain and the big bad, the cast, trailers, news, and updates for the next run.
Season 8 of The Flash has been officially given a green light last February 2021 by The CW, just a month after the seventh run of the series premiered. It is expected that it will open with a five-episode crossover-type of event and it still hasn’t been confirmed who among the familiar characters from the Arrowverse would be present. Still, having such makes the upcoming season an exciting one.
The CEO of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, said in an interview with Deadline, “The idea for The Flash is, Eric Wallace and Greg Berlanti have come together and are talking about other superheroes from the CW-verse who will come together in each individual episode. It will not quite be a crossover but will have a crossover-type feel and the introduction of all these characters."
Having several speedsters by the end of the seventh season face the villain Godspeed, it is also expected that Season 8 will pick up where the previous run ended. Still, details about what happens for the rest of the season are kept in the shadows and surely, the mystery kept by the showrunners about what will happen would be something worth the wait.
Nothing has been confirmed just yet as currently, the series has not been concluded. There is no telling whether The Flash Season 8 is the final season of the show but looking at where the story is headed, it seems like it is still up for more but who knows, it’s not for us to decide but hopefully, there would be another run. It is also the longest-running show in the Arrowverse.
As of the time of writing, there have been no trailers released for The Flash Season 8. What The CW just released were snippets of what happened in the finale episode of Season 7 showing several speedsters take on Godspeed and we see Barry Allen take the lead.
Grant Gustin remains to be the banner character of Barry Allen/ The Flash. He would be joined by Candice Patton as Iris/ Wife of Barry, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/ Killer Frost, and Jesse L. Martin as Joe/ Father of Iris. In addition, there would also be original cast members reprising their roles such as Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton, Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, and Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk.
Sadly, two members of the cast already bid their goodbyes to the series, Carlos Valdes who portrayed Cisco Ramon, and Tom Cavanagh who played various characters of Reverse-Flas, Eobard Thawne, and Harrison Wells.
Valdes shared the reason he is leaving the show in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “I'm the child of an immigrant, so my whole ethos is "earn your place or card" and I think that's what I did for a long time. I just put my head down and I made it work. And a lot of joy and satisfaction and career rewards and momentum have come from that. And I'm so appreciative of that, but at the end of the day, mental health is important...me to step away from the show, it's a way of me taking care of myself.”
As for Cavanagh, he expressed his departure from The Flash in an Instagram post saying, “It has been a joy creating and playing the myriad Wells that makeup 'Wells st' on #theFlash. At times brusque, sunny, capricious, and perpetually shameless, they will always be linked by a single unbreakable thread of gratitude. My thanks to everyone on all sides of the screen that makes up this wee superhero show of ours.”
If there would be someone to make a hero’s life difficult, it’s definitely the villain. However, it is also the big bad who makes the hero a hero because there’s no one to fight or save if there is none, right? As for The Flash Season 8, it is expected to have old and new villains. The showrunner Eric Wallace, in an interview with Deadline, already dropped hints as to the arrival of a mysterious new big bad. Who could that be?
With the arc of Godspeed appearing to be done already, and with the departure of Cavanagh who played Eobard Thawne, it’s safe to say that whoever is coming would be big enough to shake the world of the Scarlet Speedster.
The Flash Season 8 will return this fall, on November 16, 2021, at 7 PM CT/8 PM ET on The CW and the next morning, it would be released on the CW app and on CW.com. The previous season had its fair share of delays and adjustments in the schedule having its debut in an unusual way but there is hope for the next run that it would have a fixed release date.
