The best friends of Captain America will have their own mini-series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, forming part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anthony Mackie’s The Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Solider will team up as they go on an adventure against the anarchist group, the Flag Smashers, and the villain who paved way for the events of Captain America: Civil War, Helmut Zemo.
After the events of Avengers: Endgame where Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) decided to retire as Captain America, the cap shield was handed over to Sam Wilson and like the Falcon, he is expected to be the next Cap. Bucky Barnes, the villain turned hero, will be joining Sam to suit up and be their own hero. Reportedly, a member of the Young Avengers will be introduced in the mini-series giving another avenue of expansion for the MCU. Also joining Sam and Bucky is Agent 13 (Emily VanCamp) aka Sharon Carter, niece of Captain America’s sweetheart Peggy Carter and a SHIELD agent. Super-Patriot (Wyatt Russell), a jingoistic Cap, and a US Agent will also appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. John Walker will don a similar Captain America suit as the Super-Patriot possible in the efforts of the US government to replace Captain America with their own.
The story will likely introduce how essential Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes will be as they embrace a larger role in the Avengers and in the totality of MCU now that most of the original Avengers are gone. The shoes of Captain America would definitely be hard to fit in but with Sam and Bucky stepping in, the future of the MCU is bright.
With Marvel Studios producing a number of limited series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is expected to have six episodes and is set to be released on March 19, 2021, on Disney+ US.
