The Ayer Cut Releases Unseen Jared Leto's Joker Clip in the Suicide Squad

In a never-before-seen clip of Jared Leto's Joker, David Ayer, director of Suicide Squad (2016), shared a sinister video of Joker saying the words "you should be ashamed of yourself." The video contains Joker's half-burnt face, even included in one of the trailers but it was not included in the final cut of the movie. Ayer said that if the opportunity arises that he could share his true vision for Suicide Squad, he would, adding that it would be easy to complete and would be cathartic for him.

This vision of Ayer features more of Joker, including his fight in the subway, and a clear tone to Joker's relationship with Harley Quinn which could have fit better for the introduction of Birds of Prey. His version also includes a larger arc for Katana and a could-have-been love triangle between Joker, Harley, and Deadshot. Ayer said that his film has never seen the light of day as it got the "Edward Scissorhands treatment."

This is not the first time a call for the original cut of the film in the DC Extended Universe happened. Recently, the Snyder Cut has been making some noise as Zack Snyder's version of Justice League will finally be released this year as confirmed by Snyder himself. In the same situation, Ayer's Suicide Squad got the same fate as that of Snyder's Justice League. Because of this, Zack Snyder plans to talk to Ayer regarding this issue saying that he supports filmmakers needing their vision seen on screen. Snyder added that he hopes that other filmmakers would be given the same support he received in having their versions of the movie seen. This series of calls of distress from filmmakers and fans alike to bring justice to the original cuts of films could hopefully open more doors in the future.

The Suicide Squad of James Gunn is expected to arrive in theaters on August 6, 2021.
