Welcome back to Racoon City as the popular survival-horror game of Capcom, Resident Evil, has been confirmed to have an upcoming live-action series on Netflix. During the fifth day of the Netflix Geeked Week, an announcement was made as the series unveils its cast members, and it is also said that the project’s first season is currently in production.
Been dying to announce this. Get ready to enter New Raccoon City with the cast of RESIDENT EVIL: LANCE REDDICK / ELLA BALINSKA / TAMARA SMART / SIENA AGUDONG / ADELINE RUDOLPH / PAOLA NUNEZ. #GeekedWeek pic.twitter.com/ULKEFuYdAr— Netflix Geeked (@NetflixGeeked) June 11, 2021
The iconic villain Albert Wesker will be portrayed by Lance Reddick and he will be taking us back to the heart of where the outbreak started, in Racoon City. He would be joined by Tamara Smart, Ella Balinska, Siena Agudong, Paula Nuñez, and Adeline Rudolph, but the details on their characters are still in the shadows and kept under wraps.
The series is said to be focusing on Wesker and his family, one which the game nor any other adaptations have shown. This only means that we’ll get a never-before-seen story of Resident Evil and it will certainly be a whole new Racoon City, a lot different than other adaptations.
Constantin Films will be back as the studio focusing on the franchise after it produced the six films that previously held the title. Andrew Dabb will pen the script and he would also be the executive producer and the showrunner, and he will be joined by Mary Leah Sutton to write and executively produce as well. Other executive producers are Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben, along with Constantin Film CEO Martin Moszkowicz.
Resident Evil has been a staple name ever since the game was released in 1996. It has been made known more through various comics, novels, animated films, live-action films, and even having theme park attractions based on it. The title will also be having an original anime series on Netflix titled Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness coming this July. Recently, Resident Evil Village has been released as the eighth game in the franchise.
There is no news yet as regards the release date of the live-action series Resident Evil on Netflix.
