The Matrix 4 is really happening and it is rumored to involve time traveling and a young Morpheus as the storyline has been floating since there has been speculation that Michael B Jordan will be taking up the iconic role of Laurence Fishburne.
Another name speculated to take on the role of Morpheus is Yahya Abdul-Mateen. While both Jordan and Abdul-Mateen have not been confirmed, what's sure is that Laurence Fishburne will not be suiting up as Morpheus.
Laurence Fishburne confirmed that he was not invited to reprise his role as Morpheus for the fourth Matrix film. Fishburne gave well-wishes for The Matrix 4 even when he wasn't told anything about the return of his character.
Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss was confirmed to be reprising their roles even when Neo died in the last installment of the film. With this, fans theorized that Neo and Trinity will be revived to combat a new threat that will be arising after the original trilogy.
Included in the theory was that Neo and Trinity would be time traveling to visit the past and the eras of Zion where they would possibly be meeting a young Morpheus who was then a rebellious firebrand. With these theory suggestions, it could lead to their encounter with younger versions of the characters.
If this would be followed, other characters they could encounter would be Joe Pantoliano's Cypher. With no confirmation as to Joe Pantoliano coming back, his character could also be re-cast and there is no speculation yet as to who would take on his role.
Tank, Switch, and Dozer could also be encountered by Neo and Trinity if they would be traveling back in time. Even with Cypher and Switch's death, if the sequel would go through time traveling, it is really possible.
