The Infinity Saga of Marvel Cinematic Universe has been close to the hearts of many fans as it took more than a decade and three phases of the MCU to build up with the Infinity stones appearing in different forms to conclude in an Earth-shattering Infinity War and Endgame.

It all boils down to Thanos, the Mad Titan behind the vision of collecting all the Infinity stones to eradicate half of the universe in hopes that the remaining half would thrive only to find out that those who lived to tell the story after the snap would cause his demise.

Now that the Eternals are coming into the picture, the film may be able to address where the stones originated and possibly how did the Infinity stones draw the attention of Thanos to plot the grand plan of his mass genocide.

Near immortal beings, the Eternals could shed more light as to the origins of the Infinity stones which were created before creation itself. The Eternals were created by the Celestials, God-like beings from an ancient race of entities that has the ability to possess vast matter and energy manipulation.

The Celestials are giant humanoids who lorded over races predating the Asgardians, and are considered extremely powerful cosmic beings. The Eternals sprung from these Celestials where they were sent to Earth to protect it from the monster called the Deviants.

In the brief discussions of the origins of the Infinity stones, most of it directs back to a Celestial. The Collector himself told that a Celestial named Eson used the Power Stone to "judge" and eradicate civilizations thousands of years before. In Avengers: Endgame, Nebula called Vormir, where the Soul Stone is placed, the "center of Celestial civilization."

Dating back to ancient times, the Eternals may have encountered the infinity stones and placed them where they cannot fall in hands of sinister beings like that of Eson and Thanos. The stones were distributed so strategically across the universe that it is not an easy quest to collect all.

The Mind Stone was placed in the staff of Loki, in Asgard. The Soul Stone is guarded in Vormir and cannot be retrieved without a sacrifice. The Aether was with the Dark Elves before turning into the Reality Stone that was placed under the care of the Collector by Sif.

The Power Stone was housed by the Orb in a protected place in Morag. The Time Stone was on Earth and was given to the sorcerers under the care of Ancient One housed in the Eye of Agamotto to protect it from the evil entities. The Tesseract housed the Space Stone and was on Earth.

It is also possible that the Celestials themselves created the stones for themselves but did not meet the purpose of each stone which may have resulted from their own personal agendas. With the Eternals having a history with the Celestials, they could provide answers as to how the stones were made and why.

The Eternals is slated for a theatrical release on November 5, 2021, starring Angelina Jolie as Thena, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.
