Project No. 9 brings to life the story of Yoshida and Sayu, an uncanny meeting of two people in the middle of the night under the streetlights. Yoshida, 26 years old, works for a major IT company who just got heartbroken so he drank his feelings out. The same night, on his way home, he saw Sayu, a girl who ran away from home. She asked if she could stay with him and despite being hesitant at first, Yoshida agreed, with nothing in return.
This anime series brings to the screen the pages of the light novel series of the same name by Shimesaba with the illustrations of booota which is published in Kadokawa's Kakuyomu and later in Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint and of the shōnen manga series by the same author with the illustrations of Imaru Adachi published in Kadokawa Shoten's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Ace. The English publication of both is under One Peace Books.
The anime series has 13 episodes lined up in a single-cour and it gets more and more interesting as Sayu and Yoshida get to live in one home with all the awkwardness and such.

What happened in Higehiro Episode 2?
In Higehiro Episode 2, Cell Phone, Yoshida tells Sayu she could live with him with the condition that she will be doing the housework as Yoshida realizes he cannot just kick out Sayu and get rid of her as she clearly has nowhere to go.
For days, they had an awkward yet calm life together under one roof and it continues to be like that for some reason. During one holiday, Sayu and Yoshida went shopping and he realizes that Sayu has no cell phone at all.
Curious, Yoshida asks her why is that so and she replies in a staggered way with an awkward smile. Upon arriving home, Yoshida gifts Sayu a phone of her own. Sayu even complimented it that she likes its color. She tells Yoshida that they exchange numbers and Sayu puts her new phone number on Yoshida's cell.
Yoshida reflects on Sayu, on how there is a chance he is falling for her, how she is a child first before being a woman. Sayu shows him that her name on the phone is "I'm Sayu," and Yoshida's is "Yoshida-man." She even tells him he is the only person in his contact list before declaring that she is exclusively his with a smile that makes Yoshida think, a smile so genuine.
