One of the most awaited face-offs is here as Godzilla vs. Kong is nearing. After the release of the trailer of Godzilla vs. Kong, many have been baffled as regards the sudden growth of Kong in the trailer being about as tall and as huge as Godzilla.

In the previous releases of Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island, the two are in different heights with Godzilla towering at 393 feet as compared to Kong who stands at 103 feet. In the trailer of Godzilla vs. Kong, however, Kong seemed to have grown much larger and is about Godzilla's height.

To scale, using humans, in Kong: Skull Island, Mason Weaver is just about the size of Kong's thumb while in Godzilla vs. Kong, it was shown that a girl is smaller than the tip of Kong's finger. This brought the question as to how Kong has grown significantly in the span of four decades.

The explanation is that Kong is now a grown ape. Despite being a tremendous threat to humans as Kong can easily grab and smash helicopters out of the sky and chomp helicopters with his feet, Kong is still not the largest creature on the island.

Kong even needed the help of humans on several instances when he faced the "bigger creatures" like Mother Longlegs and full-grown Skullcrawlers despite being able to easily kill off baby skullcrawlers.

This is an indication that Kong had not reached his full potential yet as he is not yet fully grown. In a remark of Hank Marlow made during the meeting with the Monarch and Colonel Packard, the size of the skeletons of presumably Kong's parents seen on the graveyard of skeletons, it is clear that Kong has yet to reach full growth.

In another instance, when Kong swallows a human person, it doesn't seem that he could fit as many as what was shown in a scene where ten soldiers hide inside the mouth of a skull with room for more.

In a different scene, a soldier was seen hanging through an eye socket of a skull and in comparison, to Kong's, it seems that only two human heads can fit his eye socket.

Even with estimations of size, Kong is considerably smaller than that of his ancestors which means he has more to grow for the next decades.

This was also teased in the end credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters where there has been a seismic disturbance in Skull Island which hints that Kong could be hibernating underground even without him appearing in the film.

In the Hollow Earth Theory of Houston Brooks in Kong: Skull Island, there are massive tunnels underground where Titans used to travel through or seek refuge in hiding. This could confirm how gigantic species went unnoticed for years.

Hibernation could cause Kong to grow taller and larger in size, which could explain how he grew about the same size as that Godzilla. While in hibernation, the ORCA must've woken up Kong which may explain the seismic activity on the island. This leads directly to Godzilla vs. Kong.

Kong's new appearance as a larger ape stands a better chance in fighting off Godzilla now that they are on an almost equal footing. After the long wait, it is finally here, the battle between Godzilla and Kong.

Godzilla vs. Kong will premiere in selected theaters, March 26, 2021. It will also be available on the same day at HBO Max.
