With the God of Mischief teaming up with Lady Loki to take down the Time Variance Authority and Victor Timely, this begs the question, do Loki and Sylvie end up together? Do they fall in love in their series?

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, the Loki series serves a major role in building the stage of the Multiverse, which includes branching timelines and the Kang variants. Not to mention, Loki variants, too.

Loki and Sylvie may just be a variant of one another, but you've got to admit, they did undeniably bond over six episodes in the first season.

Since they parted ways after killing He Who Remains, where does this leave our Loki variants in Season 2?

Loki and Sylvie first got together in Loki Episode 3, Lamentis, when the TVA transported them into one of the worst apocalypses in existence.

After plenty of attempts to one-up one another and figuring out there was no way of escaping easily, they teamed up to hatch a plan, which only ended up failing in the end.

As you may have noticed, we have seen a much softer God of Mischief the more he got to know Lady Loki, to the point of even unveiling beyond what we have known him to be in the MCU.

This little spark progressed into a deeper bond once they almost got killed off by their fate on the doomed planet.

As they braced for impact, Loki and Sylvie ended up holding hands together as a symbol they had each other's back, only to get taken back in the TVA again.

Mobius grilled Loki, pretty much explaining how the entire thing of developing feelings for his female counterpart was unnatural, "Two variants of the same being, especially you, forming this sick, twisted romantic relationship... What an incredible seismic narcissist—you fell for yourself!"

As much as the series characters themselves kept warning Loki not to pursue Sylvie, isn't that exactly why he's the God of Mischief? Of course, he'd end up following his own heart's desires.

It was in Loki Episode 5 when Loki and Sylvie finally had the chance to clear the air as they talked about what could potentially unfold once they defeat whoever is behind the TVA.

Ultimately, the two did end up sharing a kiss, but it was only so Sylvie could distract Loki from executing the Kang variant, He Who Remains, despite the big bad's warnings of what might happen.

Because of this, Sylvie awakened Kang the Conqueror, who was the Kang variant we got to see in action in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

However, due to his death in the Ant-Man threequel, comes Victor Timely aka Kang Prime this Loki Season 2.

Sylvie was Loki's 'First Real Love Story'

In a chat with the CBR, Michael Waldron, the writer of Loki, revealed that it was the original plan all along, which you can read all about below:

"We knew it was a bold, interesting decision and we're excited about it. Everything about it just felt sort of dangerous, and it felt like, 'Well, that's why we should do it.' I think, as I've said in other interviews, ultimately, this is a guy who's got to learn to love himself, first and foremost. It came up in the first episode, saying to Mobius, 'I'm a villain.' That is his honest self-assessment. It's interesting, through his relationship with Sylvie, that he comes to see himself in a new light."

It still seems a bit weird or narcissistic to fall in love with another version of yourself, right?

Considering it's an unconventional way of showing how Loki learned to 'love himself', not many MCU fans were impressed with how the MCU show handled the love story.

In another interview with Waldron with Marvel.com, he shared his fear of how he could bring Loki's love story to life on the small screen:

"We went back and forth for a little bit about, like do we really want to have this guy fall in love with another version of himself? Is that too crazy? But in a series that, to me, is ultimately about self-love, self-reflection, and forgiving yourself, it just felt right that that would be Loki's first real love story."

Although most fans were entirely baffled at the idea of Loki falling for his variant, it is also kind of interesting to think that Loki found his newfound relationship with Sylvie as a new way of forgiving himself for his past crimes and finally accepting who he is.

He now understands compassion and while it is in some twisted manner, he found it in another version of himself.

The second episode of Loki Season 2 finally reunited Loki and Sylvie together. Loki may have been the last person Sylvie wanted to see, but it was an urgent meeting.

The TVA continues to fall apart, and as much as Loki wants to convince Sylvie to protect the citadel with him, Sylvie still has a strong hold on her decision that the He Who Remains' headquarters is 'broken' and 'rotten.'

This worsens when they realize General Dox's plan to terminate all the branching timelines, all of which contained different lives of variants.

When the moment of defeat came to Loki, Sylvie exited the TVA, telling him she didn't want anything to do with helping the corrupted 'defense' against the multiversal war.

Though X-5 aka Brad Wolfe kept pointing out the 'tension' between the two variants, it remains to be seen whether they have romantic feelings for each other. Well, apart from the chemistry Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino have been exhibiting, that is.

By the fourth episode, we've continued seeing Loki and Sylvie work on their disagreements about caring about the TVA's safety.

Sylvie keeps on defending her side that 'hope' is not a good road to walk down without a stable plan, whereas Loki begs to differ.

Loki Season 2 Finale Ends on a Bleak Note for Loki and Sylvie

Once the 'God of Mischief' officially learned how to use his time-slipping abilities, he brought himself back to the events of Loki Season 1 finale.

It was specifically the time when he and Sylvie had their first kiss.

Although granted, this was to distract the God of Mischief from Lady Loki's actual plan of killing He Who Remains, it was also one of the most controversial decisions made in the MCU.

The only sound reason that could help Loki save the branching timelines is by "killing" Sylvie, as her line always echoed during their fight, every single time Loki tried to stop her from stabbing He Who Remains.

The finale episode of Loki Season 2 made it clear that Loki would do anything but kill his friends and Sylvie.

So, instead of doing what seemed to be the obvious choice at hand, he looked for a different way, which expresses his fondness for Sylvie's existence in his life, knowing full well she deserves to live a life outside the Time Variance Authority.

It remains to be seen where Loki's duties as the God of Stories would hinder him from ever seeing Sylvie again, but this does kind of put things into perspective.

It is possible that Sylvie would either move on and find a different romantic partner on the Sacred Timeline or that Loki and Sylvie end up finding each other in an unconventional way along their journey.
