To clear the air, a working title doesn't mean that such is the final title. It has been a practice for films to have a working title assigned to a project because of either two things: disguise what it is about, or simple because there's no name for it yet. For Black Panther 2, a new working title has been chosen and it is "Summer Break."
In a report of the Production Weekly posed in The Ronin, the "Summer Break" working title of Black Panther 2 has been revealed. Although it doesn't give away that much, more often than not, working titles of Marvel films got hints on what the film is really about.
For an instance, "Group Hug" was the working title of the Avengers in 2012 wherein the team finally got together and fought against the Chitauri led by Loki. Even the previous film of Black Panther had a working title related to the film itself, it was "Motherland," a clear reference to the place where the Black Panther resides, in Wakanda.
Although some working titles for the upcoming films seem absurd, it all makes sense why such has been the working title once the film arrives. For the upcoming films, Captain Marvel 2 has "Goat Rodeo," Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has "Dust Bunny," Thor: Love and Thunder has "The Big Salad," and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has "Hot Christmas."
For Black Panther 2, "Summer Break" may mean a lot of things, but it could also center on Shuri as well. With Marvel looking firm on their decision not to recast the late Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, it seems that Wakanda will be in search for a new king, or maybe a queen with the younger sister of T'Challa, Shuri.
Shuri is known for being the next in line for the throne, the genius behind Wakanda's technology at a young age. After being blipped, she remains the exact same age of 18 and she's fond of mentioning summer break activities like Coachella or Disneyland. The working title could be hinting on her journey to becoming the new ruler of Wakanda.
With the film's story still in the shadows, we could only guess.
Black Panther 2 has in its plans to film this July and the film is expected for release on July 8, 2022.
