Mara Jade Creator Timothy Zahn Isn't Sure Whether Character Appears In Star Wars 9

Star Wars fans might have been hoping to see Luke's Legends wife Mara Jade in Star Wars: Episode IX, but the character's creator, Timothy Zahn, has no idea whether or not the character's finally going to make her way to Star Wars canon.

Speaking in an interview with the Talking Bay 94 podcast, Heir to the Empire writer Timothy Zahn says that he is unaware whether or not Lucasfilm included Mara Jade in the screenplay for the third and final film in the studio's sequel trilogy.

The author is, however, interested in seeing whether or not the character finally makes her way to Star Wars canon just like his other creation, Grand Admiral Thrawn did in Star Wars Rebels. Zahn also promises fans that he'd do his best to find a way to get Mara Jade into canon – that is if he could find an organic way to fit her into a new Star Wars story.

"If there was a generic, or organic, spot for her to fit into a story...I promise people, I will pitch it to the Lucasfilm story group, and then, it's their decision whether to allow it or not."

Though it seems unlikely that Mara might make her way to the big screen after seeing Luke (Mark Hamill) holing himself away in Ahch-To in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans would definitely love to see Mara Jade turn up in a Star Wars movie. Imagined as a strong, complex female character, Mara took on many roles in Zahn's books, from smuggler to Palpatine's apprentice, and later on a Jedi Master.
