Magic: The Gathering MMO Might Already Be in Development

What if you can visit Magic: The Gathering's multiverse in an MMORPG? Just imagine exploring the worlds of Innistrad, Ravnica or Kaladesh online with a Planeswalker avatar while you cast spells you've known when you played the famous trading card game. Cryptic Studios has been developing a new game based off a ‘Critically acclaimed IP', and it's probably Magic: The Gathering.

Earlier this year, Hasbro, the company that owns MTG, were claiming that they were 'reimagining' digital versions of popular games - and the team behind it includes the Magic Online group and Crytpic Studios. It looks like they're focused on taking the MTG franchise to the next level and expanding beyond the card games.

As NeoGaf points out, Cryptic has also posted a job ad for an Art Director to work on an ‘exciting, well-known fantasy IP'. Since they've already worked on D&D by making Neverwinter, it just makes a lot of sense that MTG is the next one getting an MMO treatment.

If it turns out to be MTG, I just hope that it won't suck. It would be exciting to see our favorite Planeswalkers and creatures come to life in the digital world. The multiverse is huge so it would be a huge challenge to make a game that will live up to the fans' expectations. This could help reach more potential new players, and I hope that an MTG feature film or TV show will be developed soon.

So would you play an MTG MMO? What would you like to see in the game? Feel free to discuss about this in our MTG Facebook group here.
