Wonder Egg Priority Episode 12 can't get any stranger... or at least so we hope because then the finale would leave us with more questions than answers... Episode 11 was even scarier than the last one and means that many, many elements of previous episodes should be seen in a different light. Wonder Egg Priority Overview and Episode 11 Recap
Wonder Egg Priority is an originalanime by Studio CloverWorks, written by Shinji Nojima. It follows Ai Ooto, who is devasted following the suicide of her best friend, Koito. In her dream world, she becomes a magical girl capable of saving people who have committed suicide and setting them free. For each person she frees, she comes closer to saving Koito.
Soon, she's joined by Neiru, Rika, and Momoe, three very different girls, who only have one something in common: they've all lost a friend to suicide and believe the dream world of wonder eggs will allow them to reunite.
Warning: If you haven't watched Wonder Egg Priority Episode 11 yet, you might want to skip to the next session as there will be spoilers here.
Episode 11 opened with something traumatizing happening to Rika... namely the same thing that happened to Momoe in Episode 10. After a lot of Wonder Egg adventures, Rika finally saves Chiemi, a fan from Rika's idol days who developed an eating disorder and died following Rika's harsh words.
Rika has desperately tried to do better throughout the season but her relief is short-lived. Soon after, a monstrous girl named Dot kills Mannen, Rika's magical pet turtle all while talking about other girls, named Hyphen and Frill.
Meanwhile, Ai visits the house of Acca and Ura-Acca and finds that they obsessively research the issue of young girls' suicides, having a big collection of photos and headlines. Soon, she's found out by Ura-Acca who is all too willing to share some backstory:
Back when they were inhabiting human bodies, Acca and Ura-Acca were scientists in a secretive lab. They were monitored day and night to so that they could not go public with the information they found, and overall they lived in constant stress. At some point, they decided that a child might be what they need... so they decided to have one in a twisted way.
Acca and Ura-Acca experimented with an Al and eventually decided to give it the form of a 14-year-old girl with what they thought would be a perfect personality. They named this girl Frill and started to treat her as their daughter.
Things turned sour when Acca and Ura-Acca - who up until that point might have been read as life partners - both fell in love with the same woman, who chose Acca. Ura-Acca was not particularly bitter, or so he claimed but Frill became extremely jealous. She decided that she wanted a friend, and asked Ura-Acca to let her create some: resulting in the monstrous flower and bug-headed girls that traumatized Rika and Momoe.
Eventually, Frill kills Acca's pregnant wife out of jealousy. His baby girl survives, but Acca beats Frill badly, suggesting that she is not a real human and shouldn't have feelings, and locks her up for years. Around 14 years later, Acca's daughter, whom Acca and Ura-Acca also brought up together, commits suicide - or so it appears.
Before dying, Himari had displayed mannerisms that looked too much like Frill's, suggesting she, Dot, and Hyphen might be responsible. What Ura-Acca does to Frill isn't clear; it's suggested that he burnt her since she could not die. In any case, his behavior is scarier than hers - at that point, he was a human adult, with full knowledge of what he was doing.
While Frill did horrifying things and should probably never have been created, Acca and Ura-Acca were selfish in creating an artificial child for themselves, and they treated her horribly even though she was not realising what she did. From there on, they became obsessed with girls' suicides and thought that the eggs in the dream world might prevent more suicides.
But how is that possible? In the first episodes, it seemed more likely that the eggs unlocked an afterlife of sorts, and that the main characters' actions set the girls free to reincarnation or a more peaceful afterlife, making the anime seem supernatural in nature.
Later episodes suggested that Acca and Ura-Acca are the dream world's administrators, but Frill and her monstrous girls complicate things: how can they exist in that world too? And how exactly do Acca and Ura-Acca prevent girls' suicides? Are two scientists who created a child for their own selfish reasons and dropped her when she proved troublesome even suitable to do that? And who monitors them?
The first Seasonof Wonder Egg Priority will conclude at 12 episodes - the final one has a lot to answer for.
Wonder Egg Priority Episode 12 Release Date
Wonder Egg Priority Episode 12, mysteriously titled "An Unvanquished Warrior" will air next Wednesday the 31st of March 2021 (or Tuesday, the 30th of March, depending on your timezone) for premium Funimation users.
If you're streaming without a Funimation subscription you will be able to watch episode 11 on March 31, but you will have to wait until the 7th of April for Episode 12, the season finale.

Of course, it will be hard to live up to the original, with its amazing voice acting and the nostalgic opening theme, but it will be interesting to compare.
