That Time I Got Reincarnated a SlimeSeason 3 could bring happier times for Rimuru and his friends – if the destruction of Tempest is avoided in Season 2. The first cour of the popular Isekaishow's first season is coming to an end along with the Winter 2021 anime season, but will the Slime Isekai, as it's alternatively known, get a third season? Here's everything you need to know:

For the uninitiated, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime follows a man in his late thirties who is murdered and gets reincarnated in a magical world. His new form, inconveniently enough, is that of a slime. Thankfully, this doesn't stop him from making many friends and allies, especially since his form comes with unique powers: our hero, who has taken the name Rimuru, can devour anything and assume its form.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 2 is going to be a 2-cour show. In anime jargon, a "cour" describes a span of anime episodes during their initial airing in Japan. A cour normally lasts around 3 months that is, an anime season, and involves 10-13 episodes. There is often a break of several months, usually a full anime season between the first and second cour of an anime.

Such is the case with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. While the first cour is approaching its closure, there will be another batch of episodes later in the year, in July 2021. Until this too is completed or close, we don't expect an official announcement about Season 3. But it definitely shouldn't be ruled out, as the show has a lot of fans.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is based on a popular light novel and manga of the same name. Both are currently ongoing. Those who adapt manga into anime have to make tough decisions regarding pacing and some arcs are covered in more or fewer episodes than you would expect. Therefore, we can't predict exactly how much the remaining Season 2 will cover.

What we do know, is that the manga can't be covered in its entirety, being ongoing. As of 2021, there are also several spin-offs, leaving plenty of content to be adapted if the creators wish.

At the end of the day, an anime show's popularity is very often the most decisive factor when it comes to planning additional seasons so, as long as there's enough material, the fandom's interest in the show might bring a That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 on our screens at some point after 2021.

Meanwhile, anime shows that have been renewed for new seasons which are going to air this Spring include My Hero Academia Season 5 and Fruits Basket Season 3.
