We're just halfway through the first season of the supernatural shōnen anime Kemono Jihen and the characters are already pushed to the edge. Episode 6 brought about revelations and significant character development which only make us more excited about the release of Episode 7. Here's all you need to know about it.
Kemono Jihen follows Inugami, a detective specializing in the occult, and particularly his young wards, Kabane, Akira, and Shiki as they try to resolve conflicts between the human world and the supernatural world of the Kemono. The three boys have been tragically separated from their families and they're all human-beast hybrids with unique abilities.
Episode 6 was a direct continuation of the fifth episode. Mihai, a vampire who had secretly been living in Inugami's quarters (voiced by Daisuke Ono who also sings the opening theme song) sent the children on a very dangerous mission merely to entertain himself. For bug haters, this is a tough episode, as the boys have to face three malicious mosquito kemono who feast on brains.
If you can get past the disgust, this was an amazing episode in terms of character development. Shiki, who generally liked to appear tough, showed hidden depths; at some point, he froze in fear due to unresolved trauma related to his separation from his mother. By the end of the episode, he decides to tackle his avoidance and ask Inugami for news about his parents.
Meanwhile, Kabane realizes that for the first time, he's surrounded by people he truly cares about and resolves to get stronger to protect them.
Kemono Jihen airs every Sunday. Episode 7, titled "Home" is scheduled to be released next Sunday, the 21st of February for premium users of Funimation.
