Detective Conan, also known as Case Closed is one of the longest-spanning anime and manga that are currently ongoing. The franchise, therefore, had enough time to be extremely popular not only in its native Japan but also in China and elsewhere, since many fans grew up with it. But when any work goes on for more than decades, you might lose track at some point, and rumors will abound. So, is Detective Conan Case Closed finishing soon, and when?

Unless you're among the fans who grew up with the manga and show, you might have been a bit intimidated to tackle them due to the sheer number of volumes/episodes, so here's a short overview:

Detective Conan first saw the light of day in 1994, as a detective manga written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. The manga is being marketed as a shonen work. As of April 2021, the impressive amount of 99 tankobon volumes has been released – many shonen works are huge, but it's not every day that you see one close to acquiring a three-digit number of volumes.

Since 1996, the show was adopted by TMS Entertainment, also home to Fruits Basket, and never really stopped airing for good. You can find Detective Conan episodes on both Funimation and Crunchyroll, but there are over 1000 of them, so be warned!

In Detective Conan we follow the adventures of a high school detective who is attacked by criminals during an investigation and is forced to ingest poison. Surprisingly, he is not killed but transformed into a child with all memories of his life until that moment. Distressing as this is, he won't let it keep him from his call to solve crimes.

Adopting the persona of a child named Conan, he moves in with his childhood friend and her father, a detective, and tags along in his investigations, often being the one to close the case through creative impersonations. He also enrolls in a primary school, where he leads the next generation of young detectives.

Not only is Detective Conan fun, but some educational value has also been noted, with the Japanese government has used it to raise children's awareness regarding criminality. Many older anime fans have fond memories of watching the show or reading the manga when young, but when something spans for so long, you come to wonder if it will ever end.

As it seems, the case of Detective Conan might close in the not too distant future. The exact date of the final volume and final episode is still unknown Gosho Aoyama reportedly knows the ending he wants the series to have, although this is still under lock and key, and will likely remain for a few more years.

Since Detective Conan has always been a bit of a slow burn, alternating between small hints about the whereabouts of the criminals who fed Conan poison, other cases, and character development, some fans speculate the author will need many more years to give a satisfying conclusion, while others think that he has built up enough for the series to become much more fast-paced soon and eventually end. Or, it might be that the creator doesn't plan to retire anytime soon at all, and just knows the ending but plans to do much, much more before getting there.

Until the very last chapter and an episode of Detective Conan become available, we won't know for sure. What we do know, is that their release date will be bittersweet for many long-time fans.
