Mad Max: Fury Road Has Been Named The Greatest Australian Movie Of The 21st Century

Mad Max: Fury Road bathed in a river of success when it released in cinemas back in 2015. Not only did the film win the hearts of fans and critics, it also received ten Academy Award nominations including those for Best Picture and Best Director. Out of the ten nominations, the film won six awards at the Oscars, including the wards for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Costume, Makeup and Hairstyling, and Film Editing. The film was largely considered the best film of 2015.

Now, three years after, it looks like critics have come to agree that the Max Max sequel just might be the greatest film of the 21st Century. According to The Guardian, fifty-one film critics voted on Australian film site Flicks to determine the rankings of different genres of films made in Australia released after 2000. The largest poll conducted by Australian film critics in the land down under, the poll included critics like Hollywood Reporter's Rhett Barlett, Filmstruck's Alicia Malone, Ella Donald from ABC Radio, and David Straton of the Australian.

The top 25 picks of Flick included titles like the Academy Award-winning musical Moulin Rouge, the cult-horror movie The Babadook, and Samson and Delilah. The film that took the number one spot? Mad Max: Fury Road.

"We wanted to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Australian film-makers," Flicks publisher, Paul Scantlebury, said in a statement.

Of course, Mad Max: Fury Road making it to the top spot on Flicks list comes as very little as a surprise. The film made waves when it was first released, and many considered the movie one of the greatest films of all time.
