Lucasfilm Hires New Writer To Rewrite Star Wars: Episode IX

Lucasfilm has hired British writer Jack Thorne to rewrite the script for Star Wars: Episode IX

Director Colin Trevorrow wrote the latest draft of the script with his writing partner Derek Connolly, and they were initially working off a treatment by The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm has hired Thorne to bring in a fresh perspective and make sure that the script is at its best form. It's unclear how extensive the revisions will be.

Thorne recently wrote the drama Wonder starring Julia Roberts and Jacob Tremblay. He's also the creator and co-creator of several TV shows, including The Last Panthers and The Fades. Jack also wrote the first episode of the upcoming sci-fi anthology series, Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams.

The untitled Star Wars: Episode IX is set to release in theaters on May 24, 2019, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be out on December 15, 2017.
