The first anime episode of To Your Eternity was an emotional roller coaster with an ending that I’m sure caused many members of the audience to shed at least one tear.
In the first episode of this series, we meet a very special orb sent to Earth by a god. This orb takes the shape of things it encounters, starting with a rock. Eventually, a wolf comes along and dies on the rock in the arctic wilderness so the orb takes on the shape of the wolf who wanders back to a village and encounters a young boy who was abandoned by the other members of his village as they sought better lands. Eventually, the wolf takes on the form of the boy and sets off on a never-ending quest for new emotions and experiences.
Based on a manga created by Yoshitoki Oima, the series has been running in Weekly Shonen Magazine since November 2016 and is up to 14 volumes in Japan as of December 2020. The English version is being released by Kodansha and is up to 13 volumes as of December 2020. The anime adaptation is being produced by studio Brain’s Base with Masahiko Murata serving as the director. They are working off series composition created by Shinzo Fujita.
As of April 12th, 2021, it’s been made official that this series will receive an English dub at some point in the near future, but when exactly that will happen is still up in the air.
The good news is that the series is available on Crunchyroll in its original Japanese, with new episodes appearing weekly on Mondays at 9:30 am Pacific Daylight Time.
The first episode of To Your Eternity absolutely blew me away. It was emotional, dramatic, and moving in a way that I haven’t experienced in a very long time. It was powerful and gripping, and I feel strongly that you’ll think the same thing when you get around to watching it. It is that good.
