As much as I love The Slime Diaries, I’m starting to question this almost god-like reverence the residents of the Jura Tempest Federation have towards Rimuru.
While on one hand, it’s refreshing to see a series milk an actual season, in this case, summer, for everything that it’s worth it’s also worth noting that we’re now almost halfway through the anime season and we’re still on summer. Maybe we want to pick up a pace just a smidge?
In episode 5 of The Slime Diaries, we’re still in the aforementioned summer and Rimuru decides he wants to have a summer festival like he used to have back in Japan and the residents of his city are more than happy to oblige. In just one week, the residents put together a summer festival to be proud of complete with game booths, shady fortune telling, food (including Rimuru flavored shaved ice), and fireworks!
Released on Tuesdays, the next episode of The Slime Diaries will premiere on Tuesday, May 11th.
This series airs at 11 pm Japan Standard Time and then appears an hour later outside of Japan on Crunchyroll.
Pacific Time: 8 am
Central Time: 10 am
Eastern Time: 11 am
British Time: 4 pm
Alright, now that all the usual pleasantries are done and over with, let’s address the elephant in the room; the residents of the Jura Tempest Federation are fanatical for Rimuru, and that’s a kind of scary concept to be making light of. Admittedly, if you’re going to be fanatical for a leader you could do much, much worse than Rimuru, but let’s face it, this worship that they heap on him is bordering on psychotic at times.
In this episode alone, there are more than a couple of jokes about how cult-like the city residents have become such as when they are wearing Rimuru masks or when they declare that because the Blue Hawaiian flavor of shaved ice resembles their glorious leader, it’s now Rimuru flavored. I can’t even begin to imagine how much this city is going to fall apart should something ever happen to the slime.
Anyway, just to be clear, I do still love this series and think it’s a hilarious treat each week. It just has a way of making me vaguely uncomfortable at times.
