Sometimes you just need to kick back and relax with some daily hijinks and adventures in a foreign world. Set to premiere this April, Rimuru is getting to enjoy his daily life as the leader of the Jura Tempest Federation, which includes a lot of work but equal amounts of play!

In the primary story of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, a salaryman from Japan is killed in a random act of violence and is isekaied into another world as a simple slime with some pretty amazing special powers! After swallowing an entire dragon (which is kind of a long story in itself), Rimuru Tempest eventually becomes the leader of his own nation that welcomes people of all races and backgrounds. In this one season spinoff, Rimuru takes a break from adventuring and saving lives to just enjoy the fruits of his labor.

While the original source material started as a light novel written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah, this series is the second manga spinoff though this one is written by Fuse and illustrated by Shiba. This manga adaptation began running in Monthly Shōnen Sirius in March 2018. It's currently up to 4 volumes.

The Slime Diaries News and Everything You Need to Know

Originally The Slime Diaries would have aired in January 2021 but ended up getting bumped back a season due to the worldwide pandemic slowing down production on the main series. Finally, though, we're getting our long-awaited comedy spinoff.

Animated by the same studio that is producing the main series, studio 8Bit, this series will not advance the primary story one iota but rather will develop the characters through daily misadventures, fun, and hijinks. The series isn't meant to be taken overly seriously, but we should still consider the events of the series canon. The staff behind this one includes director Yuuji Haibara and music composed by R.O.N. (who mostly works on theme songs but has also composed background scores for Aquarion Logos and Kuroko's Basketball, both of which had some bopping background music).

The series itself should be a fantastic time for fans of the franchise who are seeking a light-hearted break from the norm. Be sure to check it out when it premieres on Crunchyroll and Funimation!
