Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Cut a Scene Where a Character Admits She was Gay

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will bring back familiar characters in the franchise, but we are also going to meet new faces in the film as well. Daniella Pineda plays dino medic Dr. Zia Rodriguez, and as it turns out, a deleted line would have revealed that the character was gay.

Pineda shares to Yahoo! Entertainment:

I look at Chris and I'm like; "Yeah, square jaw, good bone structure, tall, muscles. I don't date men, but if I did, it would be you. It would gross me out, but I'd do it." I love that I'm looking at Chris Pratt, the hottest guy in the world, and I'm like, "It would gross me out, but I guess I would do it!" It was also cool, because it was a little insight into my character. But they cut it.

Though some may take issue with the line being cut, I think it wasn't about representation at all, and more on the line's service to the story. I've already seen the film, and it looks like Rodriguez's admission of being gay seems a tad out of place. If it were to stay in the movie, I think it would have been criticized as an unnecessary line that was just forced in there.

Either way, I thought Rodriguez's character was still fine, and she blends along perfectly with the main cast. I'd much prefer having her type of character in the film as compared to the two kids that were introduced in the first Jurassic World.

Catch Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in theaters June 22.
