The Suicide Squad Director James Gunn ‘Thanks’ Marvel for Eternals’ Title Change

Marvel Studios recently updated its release schedule, announcing a slight change as well in one of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Dropping the "The" portion of its name, The Eternals is now simply titled as Eternals. Following the title edit, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn, who is also known for his Guardians of the Galaxy films, thanked Marvel for the title change.

Taking to Twitter, Gunn jokingly gave thanks to Marvel Studios for doing him the "favor" and giving him the "The" from The Eternals title. You can check out the post below!

Of course, Gunn isn't a stranger to subtle title changes in movies like these. His upcoming DC film, The Suicide Squad, will serve as a soft reboot of David Ayer's Suicide Squad. The "the" is essentially a way to differentiate Gunn's film from its 2016 predecessor.

Obviously, this is nothing more than just a coincidence but the thought of "giving" away a part of the title is pretty funny.
Fans recently got their first look at The Suicide Squad during the recent DC FanDome event. A thrilling roll call video shows off the characters that'll be featured in the film as well as a sneak peek clip that features behind-the-scenes footage.

The Suicide Squad is currently set for release on August 6, 2021, while The Eternals arrives on February 12.
