The Batman is set to bring a whole new version of the legendary character and with it is an ensemble of major DC characters, including Catwoman. That said, before Zoe Kravitz got the role, reports got around about potential actresses to play the character, with Baby Driver star Eiza Gonzalez among those that reportedly got considered for it.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gonzalez was asked if she ever gets her hopes up when she auditions for a role such as the Catwoman. "Oh no, I suck at that," the actress admits. She says it's "impossible" not to imagine herself in the role as well, especially once she gets "far down the line." Pointing out that partly the reason for being far down the line of a specific role means "you're living and dreaming the character."

"For my prep for every role, I'm kind of a weirdo, especially when I'm already at the camera test stage or really deep into it," Gonzalez added. "I will live and breathe the character; I'm more traditional in that sense. It is heartbreaking; it is always hard."

"You have to envision yourself in the role in order to see the role," the actress continued, that you just can't have "one foot in and one foot out." Gonzalez admits she was more like that when she started out in her career, but she wouldn't get that far. "In a sense, it didn't hurt as much, but I didn't give it the best version of what I thought I could do."

While she didn't get the role of Catwoman for Matt Reeves' upcoming film or if she has missed out on other roles, Gonzalez knows it's part of the job, and that it could mean that she isn't completely shut out from playing a character in a future DC project.

"So now I do, and I just go through the heartbreak afterwards," she said. Gonzalez compares this with a relationship that you work on, where you go through all the stages after falling in love yet it "never really solidifies." "It's this process that never has closure; it just goes away," the actress added. "So it feels like a relationship that didn't result in anything."

Though it is "heartbreaking," she has learned with time. Gonzalez has been in situations where she is considered for a role that wouldn't work out, but have "come around for something else." "I'm just lucky and grateful that I've had the chance to meet incredible directors and be part of incredible projects," she said.
