Gal Gadot Reveals Why Diana Won't Be Using Her Sword and Shield in Wonder Woman 1984

The first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 was recently released which pretty much got people hyped up for the action-packed film. Diane is seen using the Lasso of Truth in most of the shots in the trailer which got fans curious as to why Wonder Woman won't be using her sword and shield anymore, in this film at least. But Gal Gadot herself provides us an explanation.

In a recent interview with CinePop, the actress was asked regarding the change compared to what she was carrying in the previous movies. "Wonder Woman does not carry a weapon," she said. The actress revealed that they already had "an intention to let go of the sword." This is because they thought there was something "very aggressive" about it. "If you have a sword, it means you need to use it," Gadot explained. "So we wanted to give that up."

As for the shield, the actress said they didn't feel it was "necessary" for the hero to have it either. Gadot says Wonder Woman is a "goddess," she can already fight, she has the skills, and she's "super strong," which is why they didn't incorporate the shield in the upcoming film. "So no, she has the gauntlets. She has the lasso," Gadot added. "She has her tiara and that's about it."

It makes sense that she won't be needing the sword and shield, especially since the villains she'll be facing in the movie, Cheetah and Maxwell Lord, aren't people she would engage in a battle with that requires such weapons; and it seems like the lasso is fitting enough for the storyline. Personally, I think Wonder Woman looks cool regardless of what weapons she uses, not to mention the golden armor she'll be rocking in the film.

Wonder Woman 1984 hits theaters on June 5, 2020.
