There's no doubt that streaming services have seen a big surge during the coronavirus pandemic. With the high demand for these different streaming platforms, it looks like Disney+ has its plans to rise to the top with an upcoming feature that'll reportedly come in time for Mulan's debut.
According to Disney Plus Informer, who has done some data mining, a new code has been embedded onto Disney+ on August 28 that indicates a "Group Watch" feature in development. It looks to be an interactive way to view content with friends and family, along with the use of emojis and chat features.
The Group Watch feature is said to be available to those who have a Disney+ account, each subscriber can send up to 6 invites for a maximum of 7 people in the watch party. That being said, they do need to have the Premier Access, especially if they are going to watch Mulan. This can only be done on a laptop or mobile device as well.
In addition, all subscribers must have the content available in their own international market. Someone in the US wouldn't be able to invite someone who is in the United Kingdom if the said content isn't available in their region.
The feature reportedly also has a PIN code functionality. As the outlet pointed out, this could be a way to keep children out of inappropriate group watches and to avoid inviting random subscribers. This could also pave the way for Disney+ to be PIN-locked in the future.
That being said, there's no official word from Disney yet. It's also worth noting that some things would change by the time this feature rolls out. Should the feature become official, this would actually make Disney+ the first international streaming service to have a Watch Party feature built into its program as opposed to other services that use extensions to do so.
