It’s no secret that it came as a shock to Marvel fans when Netflix pulled the plug on Daredevil, eliminating the hopes of getting a fourth season. And as it turns out, the fans weren’t alone on this, as Charlie Cox and the team were actually gearing up for another run.

Cox played the role of Matt Murdock for three seasons and also appeared in The Defenders. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actor admitted that he was so sure of Daredevil getting a fourth season that he actually turned down other acting jobs offered to him. "I mean, we all thought we were going," he said. "You know, I turned down jobs, 'cause I thought we were shooting and we were getting ready for it."

They had a good reason to assume so too, revealing that Cox met with showrunner Erik Olesen and then-Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb about their plans for future episodes. "I had a brief conversation with Eric and Jeph about what was planned and that kind of sucks, 'cause I was really excited, you know, as we all were," he added. Cox says it was “a real shock” and to this day, he doesn’t know what was going on behind the scenes and who’s to blame for the cancelation.

"One of my favorite shows of the last few years is The Leftovers," Cox said. "And, the reason I love The Leftovers — one of the reasons — is because the quality never drops." This is to point out that it’s sometimes best to cancel a show when it’s at its best so as not to decrease its quality.

"But, I like to think that we ended on a massive high. Some people, some friends of mine who are fans of the show, described season three as our best,” the actor added. Cox would rather have Daredevil be remembered as a “great moment in time” that “didn't descend into kind of ridiculousness."

All three seasons of Daredevil are available to stream on Netflix.
