Joss Whedon, Lionsgate Face Copyright Lawsuit Over The Cabin in The Woods

The Cabin in the Woods was one of the most unforgettable horror films released in the past decade; its concept seemed fresh and intriguing, but producer Joss Whedon and Lionsgate might be in hot water as author Peter Gallagher has filed a suit against them, claiming that the Avengers: Age of Ultron writer snatched his idea for 2012's film from his novel

Gallagher filed suit in California federal court Monday, saying he believes Whedon, who co-wrote and produce Cabin in the Woods script, took ideas from his 2006 book The Little White Trip: A Night in the Pines. Director Drew Goddard and Whedon's production company Mutant Enemy are also mentioned in the suit.

In the complaint, Gallagher points out the "striking" similarities between his book and Whedon's film, including the names of the lead characters and the cabin, the plot, pace, mood, and sequence of events. The suit also points out specific scenes that strikingly resemble one another.

Gallagher is seeking $10 million in damage and claims he has "lost, and will continue to lose, substantial revenues from the production and sale of the film". You can read the full complaint here.
