Why There Won’t Be An It: Chapter Three

It: Chapter Two is based on a Stephen King novel with the same name, this second installment follows the story of The Losers Club, 27 years after their first encounter with the devil Pennywise at Derry, Maine.

The sequel would be the conclusion to the highest-grossing horror film of all time. But despite the positive public reception, it seems like the team behind the duology is certain that there won't be a third chapter.

Jessica Chastain, the actress playing adult Beverly Marsh in the film, sat down with Variety to talk about IT: Chapter Two and her upcoming Biopic movie. When asked about the fate of Pennywise, Chastain answered: "It is a spoiler! Are you asking if there's going to be an IT 3? No, there's not...Because Stephen King didn't write an IT 3. The book's done... If he decides to write another chapter, great."

Gary Dauberman, the screenwriter for both It films, also explained that it's not his call to write another film to satisfy the fans' interest in a sequel or spinoff. He clarified that he wants to respect the source material written by King.

Finally, Andy Muschietti, the director of the movie, also turned down the possibility of Pennywise returning for a spinoff. Muscietti thinks of exploring the mythology King originally tackled in the future, but he blatantly confirmed that "there's nothing on the table".

All good things must come to an end, indeed. We may not have a third chapter for It, but King, Muschietti, Dauberman, and the entire team behind the second installment surely did their best to deliver a satisfying conclusion. I, for one, can't wait for the movie release this September.

It: Chapter Two will haunt everyone in the cinemas this September 6.
