Naruto and Avatar: The Last Airbender Topped Netflix's US Animated Shows in 2020

Netflix may not be the best streaming service for anime shows, but several familiar anime titles have ranked well in 2020 thanks to the fandom.

According to the NPD Group's recent findings about highest-ranked kids shows in the US, Avatar: The Last Airbender made it to the top, and it's joined by the popular shonen anime series, Naruto.

"Originating in Japan, anime uses a colorful yet simple graphic style to tell fantastic or futuristic stories. 'Avatar: The Last Airbender,' 'Naruto,' and 'The Legend of Korra,' are examples of this popular style of animation in 2020 top 10 Subscription Video Track ranking from NPD," NPD noted.

Avatar: The Last Airbender, the popular American animated series, topped the list, which isn't surprising since the show was released on Netflix last summer during a period where many people were still staying at home. The series, which originally aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008, is getting a live-action adaptation from Netfilx. Avatar's animated sequel, The Legend of Korra, also placed eighth in the list.

Naruto landed third in the list, just below Avatar and The Boss Baby: Back in Business. Despite its violence, Naruto is actually considered a series for kids. In Japan, the show targeted boys ages 12-18.

Avatar and Naruto topping the list proves that even older titles can have a strong staying power with young audiences. These popular franchises will continue to release new titles with Avatar getting a new live-action adaptation soon, and Naruto continuing to release new episodes of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.
