Wheel of Time Showrunner Shares First Official Set Photo of Rand al'Thor

Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins has shared the first official set photo of the upcoming epic fantasy series based on Robert Jordan's popular book series.

On Wednesday, Judkins took it to his Instagram account to post a photo featuring the series' protagonist, Rand al'Thor (played by Josha Straoski), having his hair preened by a crew member against the backdrop of a mountainous location.

The caption reads: "To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the publishing of the first Wheel of Time book, Amazon is letting me post this picture I took on set in the mountains of Slovenia! Including Rand Al'Thor getting his hair done, giant coats to show you how cold it was, and a mountain safety guide to make sure none of us fall off the cliff. Shooting this scene was one of the highlights of the whole project so far for me and it's awesome to get to share it."

In addition to Straowski, the cast of Wheel of Time Season 1 includes Rosamund Pike as Moraine, Michael McElhatton as Tam Al'Thor, father of Rand Al'Thor, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon, Zoe Robins as Nynaeve, Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al'vere, Alexandre Willaume as Thom Merrilin, and Daniel Henney as al'Lan Mandragoran.

Wheel of Time's story follows "Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity."

Amazon's official description of the show as one that is "set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it."

Principal photography for the show started on September 16, 2019. Amazon hasn't announced an official release date yet.
