Wizards of the Coast recently launched preorders for the brand new crossover Magic: The Gathering product Secret Lair x The Walking Dead, but the cards featuring characters from AMC's popular zombie TV series have been controversial among MTG fans and players because the "mechanically unique" cards are printed in black border, so that means they are legal in Eternal Constructed formats like Commander, Legacy, and Vintage. Many are concerned with the limited availability of the cards as well as characters from another IP being part of the card game. Now it looks like there's a Legacy deck with The Walking Dead cards dominating the competition.
Over on Twitter, Magic professional player Greg Orange has shared some screenshots from Magic: The Gathering Online that prove that a Legacy Humans deck with The Walking Dead cards went 5-0 in a recent online event.
As you can see in the screenshot showing the board state, the deck is using two cards from Secret Lair x The Walking Dead: Rick, Steadfast Leader and Michonne, Ruthless Survivor.
It's still too early to tell if the exclusive The Walking Dead cards are viable in Legacy format, but seeing this deck get 5-0 with two of those cards is concerning. Since the cards will only be available for preorder for a week, players who decide to build a deck with these cards might have a hard time finding them.
MTG Head Designer Mark Rosewater recently said that if these cards become popular in their formats, Wizards of the Coast could print the Magic versions of these cards (same card mechanically, but with a Magic name and art).
