New Magic: The Gathering European Modern Series Announced

Wizards of the Coast

Magic: The Gathering players in Europe have been craving for high-level Modern tournaments, and this year, they will finally get a new series of Modern events that could give them a chance to qualify for the Mythic Championship this November.

Wizards of the Coast has announced a new series of Magic: The Gathering events in Europe for Modern players and it's made up of two types of events: European Modern Series Qualifiers and European Modern Series Finals.

Wizards Play Network stores throughout Europe will be running up to two qualifier events from the end of June to the middle of August, and the winners of these events will qualify for the European Modern Series Final event local to their store. The format for each qualifier will be either Modern Horizons Sealed or Modern, with the option of the Top 8 being run as a Modern Horizons Booster Draft. Players who have already won a European Modern Series Qualifier are not allowed to participate in a qualifier. The winner of each qualifier will qualify for the European Modern Series Final event linked to that WPN store (this is based on the country of the store.)

Qualifying players will be able to join one of the seven regional finals events throughout Europe and they will be taking place around August and September. Event locations will be announced soon.

Below, you can see how each final will be fed by each region:

UK Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from UK, Ireland, Jersey, and Guernsey
France Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Luxembourg
Germany Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands
Italy Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from Italy and Malta
Spain Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from Spain and Portugal
Russia Final – Fed by qualifiers in stores from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Moldova
Poland Final – Fed by qualifiers in the countries not represented above

The finals will feature three rounds of Modern, three rounds of Modern Horizons Draft, more rounds of Modern (number depends on attendance) and the Top 8 will play Booster Draft. The Top 8 players will each receive an SDCC 2019 promo set. Players who participate in the finals will also receive a promo version of Arcbound Ravager (whilst stocks last).

Individual winners of the European Modern Series Finals will qualify for the Mythic Championship in Richmond, Virginia, which will take place on November 8 to 11.

Modern Horizons will be released on June 14. Prerelease events will take place on June 8 and 9. The prerelease events will be Draft, not Sealed. Modern Horizons events on Magic Online start on June 6.
