Magic: The Gathering is Adding New Direct Messaging, New Emotes, Cube Sealed & More


Wizards of the Coast has announced the new features and events coming to Magic: The Gathering Arena with the March 12 update today, and they include Historic Anthology II, direct messaging, new emotes, Cube Sealed, and more.

Here are the new MTG Arena features they revealed in the State of the Game - March 2020:

Historic Anthology II

Historic Anthology II, includes 25 "new" cards coming to MTG Arena on March 12, and you can get all of them for 25,000 gold (in-game currency) or 4,000 gems (premium currency). You can also craft them with Wildcards, and the cards will be available in the following formats: Traditional Ranked (best-of-three), Ranked (best-of-one) and "other special Historic events," like Historic Brawl.

Direct Messaging

Magic Arena players have been requesting for a feature that lets you chat with your friends, and the March update will finally add it. You'll also be able to chat during matches, but you can only chat with people you're currently friends with. You won't be able to chat with your opponent if they're not in your friend's list.

Players will also have the ability to flag yourself "Busy" or "Offline".

Busy: Notifications Off—you can still send and receive messages, but you will not receive any notifications when you do so.
Offline: Sign out of social features (you will not be able to send or receive messages or see which of your friends is online).

New Emotes

Magic Arena will also get new in-game emotion options: two dynamic responses for those who want to say "Thanks!" and "Sorry!"

Cube Sealed

Cube Sealed will be introduced in MTG Arena in early April with the cube built from cards currently available in MTG Arena, including Historic Anthology II. This will also be the first time that MTG Arena will be holding a "phantom" event, which means the cards used will not be added to your collection.

Default Card Sleeves

MTG Arena will also update the card sleeve UX with the March update. changing to a multi-row, vertical scrolling format that will make it easier for players to scroll through all their options. Players will also be able to select a "default" card sleeve, which will b ethe default card sleeve for any decks you build.

Wizards will reveal the full list of cards included in the Sealed Cube later this month.
